Live Blog: Follow Indiana vs. Purdue in Old Oaken Bucket Game in Real Time (2024)

6:41 p.m. – Josh Henderson scores on a screen pass on the final play of the game. Purdue wins the Big Ten West division, and Indiana ends the season with a 4-8 record. FINAL: PURDUE 30, INDIANA 16

6:34 p.m. – Indiana receiver Malachi Holt-Bennett bobbled a pass from Bazelak, and Purdue's Cory Trice comes up with it and returns it for an eight-yard pick-six. PURDUE 30, INDIANA 10

6:28 p.m. – Bazelak's pass is nearly intercepted on 4th and 9, but probably better for Purdue, from a field-position standpoint, that it wasn't. Purdue will try to run the rest of the clock out here, but Indian has all three timeouts.

6:15 p.m. – Indiana elects to go for it on 4th and 7 from the Purdue 14-yard line. Bazelak looked deep for Malachi Holt-Bennett, but his pass is knocked down by the Purdue secondary. Unless Indiana can get a quick defensive stop, that should just about do it.

6:07 p.m. – Charlie Jones break free of the Indiana defense for a 60-yard touchdown, and that might be the dagger. Looked like Bryson Bonds fell down or stumbled in coverage, and no one else could get to Jones in time. PURDUE 24, INDIANA 10

5:50 p.m. – Lance Bryant brings the heat on Aidan O'Connell and throws him down for a sack on third down. That's Bryant's sack of the day in what is likely his last game as a Hoosier. Purdue will punt it back to Indiana on the first play of the fourth quarter with a 17-7 lead.

5:44 p.m. – After two negative plays, Bazelak comes through with a critical completion to Emery Simmons for a 16-yard gain. It doesn't give Indiana a first down, but it puts the Hoosiers in field goal range. But after all that, Campbell's 36-yard attempt is blocked. Huge play for the Purdue defense, and a missed opportunity for Indiana to make it a one-possession game.

5:41 p.m. – Nice pass from Bazelak to Emery Simmons near the sideline for a gain of 22 yards. That's Bazelak's second completion of the second half, and it brings Indiana to the Purdue 37-yard line. Indiana really needs points on this possession to stay in the game based on Purdue's offensive success in the second half.

5:37 p.m. – Josh Henderson catches the kickoff and chucks it across the field to Jaylin Lucas. His throw bounced short of Lucas, who was able to scoop it up and avoid disaster. An incredibly risky play by Henderson. Purdue was flagged for a late hit out of bounds on Lucas, which gives Indiana the ball at the 25-yard line, so everything evens out.

5:35 p.m. – Devin Mockobee weaves through the Indiana defense for a 27-yard touchdown run. The Hoosiers have really struggled to bring Mockobee down today. He's up to 121 all-purpose yards. Indiana is in serious trouble now with the way its offense has looked without Dexter Williams. PURDUE 17, INDIANA 7

5:28 p.m. – O'Connell completes a first-down pass to Charlie Jones. This duo is beginning to show why it was the best in the Big Ten – from a receptions and yardage standpoint – in 2022. Jones up to 83 yards now.

5:24 p.m. – Another three and out for Indiana. I'm not sure there's a solution at quarterback with Williams out, but it doesn't appear to be Bazelak. Williams opens so much for Indiana in the run game, but with Bazelak as a non-threat running the ball, Purdue can lock in on the Indiana running backs. Bazelak had Shivers open on third down but simply missed.

5:19 p.m. – Aidan O'Connell hits Payne Durham across the middle for a Purdue touchdown. Indiana was close in coverage, but Durham had inside positioning and carried a couple defenders across the goal line. PURDUE 10, INDIANA 7

5:13 p.m. – Three first downs in a row for Purdue to start the second half. A missed tackle from true freshman Kaiden Turner allows Devin Mockobee to cross midfield. Indiana has had a tough time bringing him down today – five carries for 35 yards and three catches for 40 yards.

5:10 p.m. – Bazelak hit as he threw, and his pass falls short to Malachi Holt-Bennett. Three and out for Indiana on the first drive of the second half.

4:47 p.m. – Indiana leads Purdue 7-3 at halftime.

4:44 p.m. – Shaun Shivers sneaks through a hole in the defense to pick up third and short. Indiana's offense is in no rush, and looks like it might be content to drain the clock out and go into halftime with a 7-3 lead.

4:41 p.m. – Purdue flagged for false start and elects to punt with 3:35 left in the first half.

4:38 p.m. – Mullen is back in the game for a huge 3rd and 10 for Purdue at the Indiana 34-yard line. O'Connell's pass sails over Jones' head, and Purdue will stay on the field for fourth down instead of attempting a 51-yard field goal.

4:33 p.m. – Tunnel screen to Charlie Jones goes 58 yards down the sideline to the Indiana 34-yard line. Tiawan Mullen down after the play, which would be another loss Indiana really can't afford.

4:30 P.M. – As for what's happened in the game since Williams went down, Indiana kicker Charles Campbell missed a 44-yard field goal attempt. Bazelak and the Hoosiers went 50 yards on 13 plays on the next possession, but had to punt. Purdue went three and out, and now has the ball with 1st and 10 on its own 5-yard line after a nice punt from James Evans.

4:29 p.m. – For the full story on Williams injury, CLICK HERE.

4:27 p.m. – According to Indiana athletics, Williams suffered a right leg injury and was taken to a Bloomington Hospital for further evaluation. Connor Bazelak is now in the game at quarterback for Indiana.

4:07 p.m. – Dexter Williams scrambled around the pocket, and when he planted to change direction, he fell to the ground without any contact from the defense. Looked really, really bad. Almost every offensive linemen had their hands on their heads after it happened. The cart is coming out, and the entire Indiana sideline is huddled around Williams near the 35-yard line.

4:02 p.m. – First down Emery Simmons on a reverse. Walt Bell is in no hurry to pass the ball, and rightfully so. Indiana has 113 yards on the ground on nine carries to start the game.

3:58 p.m. – A first down run from Shaun Shivers brings the Hoosiers near midfield. Offensive coordinator Walt Bell in no rush to pass the ball early on.

3:53 p.m. – O'Connell pump faked on 3rd and 4, which allowed time for Lance Bryant to bring pressure for the first sack of the game. Big play for Bryant early on in his last game as a Hoosier. The Indiana defense has gave up a few big plays on the first possession, but a came up with a big stop there.

3:51 p.m. – O'Connell connects with Payne Durham over the middle to convert 3rd and 6.

3:46 p.m. – Jaylin Lucas goes 71 yards for a touchdown, leaving the Purdue defense in the dust. Great play call and execution by Indiana to put Williams, who can also run, in an option play to Lucas. Williams made the right read, the blocks were set up and Lucas did the rest. INDIANA 7, PURDUE 3

3:45 p.m. – Purdue, wisely, kicks it away from Jaylin Lucas. Josh Henderson returns it to the 26-yard line, where quarterback Dexter Williams and Indiana will begin their first possession.

3:40 p.m. – Indiana's defense stands strong in the red zone, forcing a Purdue field goal attempt. Heck of a pass breakup from Tiawan Mullen on first down, and O'Connell's pass skips just short of the receiver in the end zone on third down. Mitchell Fineran's kick from 29 yards out is good. PURDUE 3, INDIANA 0

3:38 p.m. – Purdue quarterback Aidan O'Connell connects with Andrew Sowinski for a 21-yard gain on a play-action fake on the first play of the game. Running back Devin Mockobee, but he has 37 all-purpose yards on the the first drive of the game as Purdue enters the red zone.

3:33 p.m. – Indiana wins the coin toss, and Purdue will receive the opening kickoff.

1:45 p.m. – Indiana linebacker Cam Jones is not in pads for warmups. Jones suffered a foot injury on Oct. 1 at Nebraska and mentioned a possible return to action this week, but he won't play today.
